About Me...The Long(ish) Story


This is my story...so far:

I grew up in a small town in Connecticut where I did almost every art and craft known to man AND watched a lot of television.  All that artiness and TV led me to study Advertising design at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I graduated with a BFA in 2000 and it took me four years to realise I didn’t want to work in the Advertising world. It felt too cold and ego driven for me. So, as luck would have it, I ended up in the Art Production Department of TV Guide Magazine, where I stayed for the next 11 years.

During this time I went through so many changes. One of which was getting back my artsy side. I started LionArt Creations as an art and craft site back in 2004. I used elements of my photographs to adorn various home decor items. The exciting thing, for me, was that I had accrued all my photos while traveling…something that had become a true passion for me. Over the course of the past 10 years, I have traveled to Greece, Canada, Italy, The US Virgin Islands, England, Wales, Ireland and my biggest love of all…Scotland. More recently, I have been exploring the United States.

My humble little dream of owning a crafts company has also morphed into the site you are on today. I have parlayed my creativity into cooking by way of a 3 year herbal apprenticeship, where I learned how to make my own herbal medicines in the wise woman tradition, effectively getting me off all my prescription medications. My newfound interest in alternative therapies spun out into becoming a level III Reiki healer. I couldn’t end there, though…of course not!

In May of 2012, after careful planning and a lot of courage, I left my life in New York City to volunteer in the kitchen at Iona Abbey, Isle of Iona, Scotland. I spent 5 months cooking and 2 months in the craft room…meeting pilgrims from all over the world and shifting my life over into what I had been dreaming of for years…even when things seemed all together too far-fetched.

When my visa ran out in January 2013, I returned to the States, a bit shattered for having to leave Scotland, and I soul searched until I decided to go to Culinary AND Health Coaching School simultaneously. I decided that my passions for heath, creating food and community would be best explored this way. I ended up down here in Louisiana, due to the kindness of a friend I met on Iona, and here I am right now…just finishing a Summer as a personal chef, moving into other kitchen work, and pursuing my blog and health coaching business.
